Saturday Tai Chi Classes London
Next Saturday class: 9th November
The Abbey Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BU.
At Taiji and Qigong, we understand that not everyone can make weekday sessions, which is why we offer monthly Saturday tai chi classes at the Abbey Community Association. Our 2-person tai chi classes help you to understand your body's balance and coordination, and whilst this can eventually be achieved on your own, it is far easier to get to grips with it working with another person.
What do our Saturday tai chi classes in London involve?
When you come to our Saturday class, you’ll work with a partner to carry out a range of exercises that help you to discover:
-
How to ground yourself
-
How to improve your stability
-
How to relax
-
How to use your body efficiently
-
How to operate from the centre (rather than the limbs alone)
-
How to feel someone else's movement
-
How to respond to that movement without tensing up
-
How to respond to that movement without fighting it
-
How to maintain your own integrity whilst working with another person
There are no fast movements; everything is done slowly so you can find the best way to use your body in any given situation. It can be difficult to understand these movements without someone else to help you, which is why our Saturday tai chi classes are a popular choice.
What happens in Saturday tai chi classes?
During our Saturday tai chi classes, you’ll carry out general 2 person exercises and sometimes we will work on a part of the 2 person tai chi sequence:
-
These movements are in effect a tai chi 'form' for 2 people doing different movements, but with the movements interconnecting.
-
The form is separated into an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ side, and every month we use one part of the sequence and work on it; it's therefore not important if you haven't been before - you are not having to 'catch up' on anything.
-
We go over one move at a time for each side, gradually adding to the sequence.
-
Having learnt a few movements on one side, you can, if you wish, learn the other side of the movements.
-
The form is useful as it explains the use/application of individual tai chi movements/postures.
